Modular, reusable and featuring an Agri-PV roof: A new visualization gives a first impression of what the Circular Valley Foundation’s pavilion will look like at the International Garden Exhibition 2027 in Duisburg’s Zukunftsgarten.
The Circular Valley Foundation’s pavilion for the International Garden Exhibition (IGA) 2027 is taking shape. Circularity is at the heart of the design: the individual elements of the pavilion are modular and designed to be reused at another location after the IGA. At the same time, the pavilion brings one of Circular Valley’s key areas of focus to life: combining agriculture and renewable energy through agrivoltaics (Agri-PV).
The design consists of two side sections that will accommodate exhibitions and presentations, with a covered area in between. The structure has been designed so that its individual components can be reused after the IGA.

Adaptable Photovoltaic System Forms the Pavilion’s Roof

The roof over the central area plays a particularly important role: it will feature Agri-PV elements. These photovoltaic systems make it possible to generate electricity while plants can continue to grow underneath. Depending on weather conditions, the arrangement of the PV elements can be adjusted. This allows the structure to help protect plants from excessive sunlight, heavy rainfall or hail while generating renewable energy at the same time.

Agri-PV thus offers an approach to one of the key challenges of the future: land can be used simultaneously for food production and energy generation. For Circular Valley, the concept is also particularly relevant for regions where decentralized energy supply and greater control over growing conditions could offer significant potential.

Combining Aesthetics, Functionality and Reusability

“When developing the pavilion, we paid particular attention not only to its aesthetic qualities, but above all to putting circularity at the center of the design and communicating it as clearly as possible. The pavilion is intended to demonstrate that design, functionality and reusability can be successfully combined,” says Dr. Carsten Gerhardt, Chairman of the Circular Valley Foundation.

The Circular Valley Pavilion will be part of the Zukunftsgarten Duisburg. IGA 2027 will take place across the Ruhr region from April 23 to October 17, 2027. As a decentralized garden exhibition, it will connect numerous locations and cities throughout the region. At Zukunftsgarten Duisburg, the Circular Valley Foundation will bring its vision of a circular future to life – by showcasing examples of circular construction as well as hosting information events featuring participants ranging from startups to established companies.
